Matthew's YES

Matthew's YES

Passage: Matthew 9:9-13

Speaker: Pastor Stephen Palm

Series: Say YES

Everyone has a past. But Matthew had a past that was impossible for him to overcome in his culture. As a tax collector, he was a traitor to his own people. It’s hard to know whether he felt shame or not. We see him throwing a party with fellow-sinners, suggesting that he has moved beyond conscience. Yet, when Jesus calls him, he immediately says YES and follows Him. Matthew teaches us about God’s love and forgiveness. He also teaches us that our past can be rewritten by God’s grace. Matthew rejected his faith and his people. But God used him to write a gospel which has, as its major emphasis, how Jesus fulfilled all that was written in the Law and the Prophets.
