Window of Promise
In 735 B.C. Isaiah described his nation as being in “a time of gloom and darkness”. The Assyrian Empire was expanding southward with great speed. This dangerous bully now had Israel and Judah in its crosshairs. The Assyrians were known for their brutality. They had developed cutting edge weapons which they used with ruthless efficiency. Every day the news grew darker and hope was flickering out. It is at this darkest of times that God opened a window of hope for His people by giving them the promise of a coming Son, a descendant of King David whose rule would usher in an age of peace and righteousness – divine ruler whose kingdom would have no end. This Window of Promise reminds us that whatever gloom and darkness we are going through, God has promised His people “a hope and a future” (Jer. 29:11).
