How it all started...
On January 23, 1975, laypeople from the nearby town of Osco met with the Great Lakes District Supt., Dean Smith, and Pastor John Hedlund of Osco EFC to discuss this further. Bible study began January 29th on a Wednesday night at Fred and Sue Kadel's house. This was an opportunity for bible study, prayer and getting to know one another. Children were also included in their own bible studies. On Feb. 26ththere was an official organizational meeting with Rev. Smith and Bible studies began in some Geneseo homes. On March 18, 1975, at a meeting of theEvangelical Free Church’s Great Lakes District, in Crystal Lake, IL, the Geneseo Evangelical Free Church was accepted into the EFCA as a church. On March 9th,1975, the church met for the first time for evening services in the choir room of J.D. Darnall High School. The first service in the new church was held on March 13, 1977, and dedicated to the Lord on May 22nd. This church was built upon the generous gifts of its people... and it still is!

Expanding the vision...
Since this time of planting, the church saw rapid growth. The growth required an initial expansion of the facilities. Today, we use our space more than ever before, and by God's grace, we have been able to see more decisions for Christ than ever.
Where we are headed...
With an expanded vision for what God wants to do in Geneseo, we have become committed to a more explosive ministry while we remain unwavering in our commitment to God's Word. Our vision is to see more churches planted, more lives saved, and for the gospel to saturate our city. We are a movement for everyone to receive Jesus and respond boldly. We are biblical and missional, united and free.
