Viral: Part 37 - Mixed Reactions
In our text today we will see the reaction to Paul's sermon at the synagogue in Pisidian Antioch. Initially, the response is favorable with both Jewish and Gentile seekers wanting to hear more. However, by the second week, the synagogue leaders have called in their reinforcements, marshalling the influence of wealthy women and powerful men in order to expel Paul and Barnabas. Yet, despite this, in just one week, a church is planted which will thrive for hundreds of years. In our text we see the clash of opposing forces and in the center of the clash is Jesus' gospel message. There will always be mixed reactions to the strong preaching of God's word. We must never try to make the gospel more palatable by watering down its hard truths. We have all been entrusted with the gospel of Jesus. This is a sacred trust given to every generation of believers regardless of their cultural context.
