Daniel's Discourse

Daniel's Discourse

Passage: Daniel

Speaker: Pastor Stephen Palm

Series: Matthew: The King and His Kingdom

Category: Expository Book Study

In most college classes and some high school classes you were furnished a syllabus on the first day. The syllabus laid out the entire course of study including all the assignments. One common feature was a list of prerequisite reading. The student was expected to read certain material before coming to the first lecture or be at a serious disadvantage. Next week we will begin Jesus’ great sermon preached from the Mt. of Olives called “The Olivet Discourse.” This sermon begins with Jesus’ disciples questioning him about the end-times. To get the most out of this great teaching, there is a prerequisite. We need to familiarize ourselves with several prophecies in the Book of Daniel culminating in the final chapter. Jesus quotes Daniel and makes it clear that the events he speaks of were already addressed by Daniel. The Book of Daniel is the Rosetta Stone for understanding Matthew 24-25. This is prerequisite study that the disciples would have done in their synagogue studies. Jesus will draw upon this knowledge and further explain God’s great mysteries concerning the future.
