Passage: Matthew 1:1-21

Speaker: Pastor Stephen Palm

Series: The Three "Exes" of Holy Week

Category: Holy Week

When Jesus enters Jerusalem, he is greeted by an exuberant crowd of worshipers who hail Him King. They also cry out in desperation, “Save Us!” and covered Jesus’ path in Palm branches, in the same way they had greeted another deliverer in the past. It is a joyful greeting, but it comes with great expectations. There is a fragility to exuberance. It is a heightened emotion, but like most heightened emotions, it is a mountain-top from which we can fall. Passion week is the story of an exuberance that turns ugly. It is a reminder that our faith must be grounded in more than our emotions.
