False Teachers

False Teachers

Passage: 1 Timothy 1:1-11

Speaker: Pastor Stephen Palm

Series: The Blueprint for Building God’s Church

Category: Church-Life

In these opening 11 verses of 1 Timothy chapter 1 we are introduced to Paul’s pastoral protégé Timothy, who from a young age accompanied him on his missionary journeys. But now is charged by Paul to remain in Ephesus as an Elder/Overseer and prevent the propagation of false teaching that is spreading through these churches. These false teachers whether intentional or unintentional were swerving from the truths found in God’s word. Instead they were focusing on the Law, myths and endless genealogies. While Paul doesn’t object to the use of the Law, these false teachers were using it in an unhealthy way. “The law is not laid down for the just, but for the lawless and disobedient.” (1st Tim. 1:9). All teaching must be measured against the glorious gospel to which Paul was entrusted with. Like Paul and Timothy, we are called to guard the gospel of truth.
