The Epic Sacrifice

The Epic Sacrifice

Passage: 1 Peter 2:24

Speaker: Pastor Ryan Shannon

Series: Epic Easter

Category: Holy Week

As we continue the theme of Epic Easter on Good Friday, we will look at Jesus Epic Sacrifice. The Apostle Peter captures in one verse what happened that day on the cross that forever changed the course of humanity. He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness (1st Peter 2:24). Writing primarily to a Jewish audience Peter underscores by the phrase he himself, Jesus' personal work in the redemption of mankind. Only Christ’s sacrifice is acceptable to God for our sins because Jesus had a body, He was flesh and blood that was sacrificed on the tree. Because He is the eternal Son of God it is only His blood that can completely cover over our sins. When we accept His substitutionary sacrifice by repentance and faith it gives us a new life and immediately, we are dead to our sin but are made alive to righteousness.
