The Feeding of the 5000+

The Feeding of the 5000+

Passage: Matthew 14:13-21

Speaker: Pastor Stephen Palm

Series: Matthew: The King and His Kingdom

Category: Expository Book Study

With the beheading of John the Baptist lingering in his mind, Jesus sets sail across the sea of Galilee to the small town of Bethsaida. Where he will meet up with his disciples, so they can have some down time after a busy season of ministry. However, the harassed and helpless multitudes catch wind of Jesus’ next move. No sooner than the bow of the boat touches the shoreline the crowds are there to swarm him. Despite Jesus being exhausted and grieving John’s death he sets aside his own needs and has compassion on crowds by teaching many things, healing their sick and miraculously feeding them by multiplying two fish and five loaves of bread. It is a lesson in faith for the hard-hearted disciples who wanted to send the crowds away when it was evening, but it teaches us to model compassion in all seasons of life because the needs of those around us will always be great.
