Speaker: Pastor Stephen Palm

Category: Expository Book Study

Pastor Steve Palm's sermon “The Genealogy of Jesus” on 12/20/2020 from the sermon series “Matthew: The King and His Kingdom - Ancestry.com is the world’s largest genealogical website. Every month over 1 billion people visit Ancestry to find out about their descendants. In hope of discovering what country, they originated from. Often in their search, people will come across old photographs of long-lost relatives. The aim of Ancestry is for you to build a family tree as far back as possible, so you can know where your roots came from. In the first 17 verses of Matthew’s gospel, he lays out for us in an orderly fashion the “family tree” of Jesus Christ. He does so for two reasons. First, to establish that Christ through his family line is the rightful heir of the Davidic Throne (2nd Sam. 7:4-16). Secondly, to show that through the fourteen generations leading up Jesus birth he is the only one that could fulfil the prophecies spoken of by the Hebrew prophets. The application for us today is through the fulfilment of these genealogies God keeps his promises to his people.
