Transformed: Part 9 - Test the Spirits

In this sermon we explore 1 John 4:1-6 where John exhorts believers to "test the spirits." At first, we might feel like we are missing the instruction manual. How do we test the spirits. However, as we observe John in action with a separatist group we see that the test is a test of whether a teacher has a proper theological understanding of the person of Jesus. The Holy Spirit is the source of inspiration for those who affirm Jesus in His totality. Those who deny either his deity or humanity are inspired by the devil. The job of the true believer is to discern between good teachers and bad ones. This is not the exclusive domain of pastors and elders... it's our job!
